| I am a self-taught visual artist, portrait painter. I
presently reside in Calgary, Canada. I started cartooning comic strips for fun when I was a child, eventually creating cartoons for my high school yearbook and a local town newspaper in Okotoks, Alberta. A few years later I became interested in art and started painting. I experimented with oil, acrylic, pastel, pencil and ink and digital mediums.
In 1995 I began focusing on surrealism and abstract imagery. I painted strange, unique, playful, yet slightly unsettling images. They were ambiguous in nature and aimed to play with the viewer.
Inspired by women, I began painting female portraiture. An art series evolved, which later became known
as the "girlfriends series". My main goal was to create alluring female imagery that attracted and interacted with the viewer. The
women are manifestations of individual beauty and persona. Each one loves you back.
This series led to public demand for commissioned custom portrait paintings of all people; men, women, children and
couples. I portray people with liveliness and joy. They are fun, stylish, flattering representations. This kept me busy for many
years, allowing me to quit my day job and pursue my career full time.
Presently I am continuing my focus on the surreal-abstract
paintings. However, I still paint
the 'girlfriends' portraits every now and then. New paintings are added to this
website when completed. |
