A recent artwork painting from 2010. Abstract no.9. A silly, scary, ambiguous abstract art painting. 30″x30″. For sale.

A good portion of the custom portraits I do are of couples. I’ve painted portrait paintings of couples of all ages, from young to seniors. The oldest couple were in their 80′s. Custom portraits of 2 people are more economical than individual portraits of 1 person. Right now a 24″x24″ oil painting of a couple is $500.00 Canada Dollars, compared to $350.00 for a painting of 1 person.

More surrealism, abstract artwork. Many of my first paintings of this kind (1996-97) were symmetrical. People have commented that these are like manifested Rorschach blots. I eventually stopped painting symmetrical compositions because I grew tired of painting the same imagery twice. These are essentially meaningless images. My aim was to create intentionally ambiguous imagery that challenge the viewers imagination. This painting “Philadaen” is 30″x36″, oil on canvas, 1997. Sold.

All of my paintings are oil paint on stretched or un-stretched canvas. Every painting starts off as a preliminary sketch. Preliminaries are usually pencil sketches, but recent ones have been a pencil, digital combination. I project the sketch onto the canvas and pencil it out. My first layer of paint is a thin coat of acrylic because of the fast drying time. I then complete it with additional layers of oil paint over a few studio sessions. I mix walnut alkyd medium with the oil paint to speed up the drying time (as quick as 12 hours) and to give the painting a wet paint look when it is dry. When the oil painting is completed and dry it is sprayed with a semi-gloss intermediate varnish, it’s edges are painted black and the canvas is wired on the back for hanging on walls.
